Oriflame and charity work

Oriflame has always supported charitable causes but we decided we would make a bigger impact if we combined all our efforts under one umbrella – the Oriflame Foundation.

Oriflame Foundation mission
The Oriflame Foundation aims to help children and young women through a wide range of educational initiatives, providing opportunities for them to change their lives for the better and be empowered to turn their dreams into reality.

Purpose
We try to make a long-term difference in the communities in which we operate. That is why the focus of our community giving programmes is education.

We strongly believe in the protection of children and young women in need. Education lies at the heart of this commitment and is based on an understanding that through education, in its many forms, we can help provide children and young women with the opportunity to use their own abilities and knowledge fully. In doing so, they can change their lives for the better and are empowered to turn their dreams into reality.

All our charity projects are run on a ‘support to self-help’ basis. This firm conviction to self-help is the guiding principle of our community involvement. It is also in line with the Oriflame business model.

Strategy

  1. To support education projects in the markets in which we operate, through the sale of accessories, cosmetic products, fundraising events and volunteering activities.
  2. To work with NGO partners with local projects in Oriflame markets or with a local charitable organisation on education projects that provide children and young women with the tools and skills to help them change their own lives.

In addition
Oriflame’s founders started the af Jochnick Foundation in 2004 and Oriflame is a co-founder of H.M. Queen Silvia’s World Childhood Foundation.
Through these organisations we are able to support several international as well as local help organisations.

Environment - How does Oriflame Cosmetics protect the environment?

Oriflame Cosmetics is committed to conducting its business in a manner which demonstrates respect for the environment.

As expected from Oriflame’s Swedish heritage, all products are formulated and manufactured inline with high industry standards and ethical guidelines.  Our manufacturing sites operate in accordance to Good Environmental Practices (GEP) and in compliance with all relevant national and local regulations.

When formulating our products, we strive to use natural ingredients that are in line with our strong environmental policies, are derived from renewable plant sources, and are produced with minimum impact to the environment.
We were one of the first companies to utilise plant extracts in skin care products, and we have always tried to optimise the use of ingredients from renewable plant sources.

Oriflame does not use materials derived from protected or endangered flora and fauna species, or from environmentally sensitive areas. Our primary surfactants and conditioning agents in rinse-off products are readily biodegradable and our preservatives are biodegradable.

We continuously monitor scientific reports on environmental issues to ensure that action can be taken to replace ingredients or packaging materials that may have negative impact on the environment.

It is Oriflame Cosmetics policy to utilise product packaging which has a minimum environmental impact.  PVC is no longer used and has been replaced by plastics that are more easily recyclable; the main material is identified on the packaging to aid recycling.  Oriflame strives to reduce waste by packaging products simply, while not compromising on product integrity.

Oriflame's  ambition is ultimately to ensure that all our paper and board packaging come from either well managed forests or recycled material. Oriflame shall work with suppliers to progressively increase the proportion of credibly certified and/or recycled wood sources as material becomes available. In 2010 Oriflame started working in collaboration with the Rainforest Alliance, a global conservation organisation, to develop a responsible global paper sourcing strategy and set ambitious sustainability targets.

When transporting raw materials and finished products, load and packing are maximized, and where possible, rail and shipping are utilized for long haul.

Surfactants - Are surfactants used by Oriflame dangerous to the environment?

Surfactants are incorporated into cosmetic formulations primarily to lower surface tension and aid even distribution of the product during use, and, therefore, are used as cleansing agents. All primary surfactants used in our rinse-off products have a good biodegradable profile.
